Under Mesolithic Skies

The late summer is a fantastic time for astronomy, nights drawing in a little but still nice and warm and some great celestial objects to explore. With this theme in mind we headed off to Abington Woods just south of Cambridge for our Mesolithic Skycamp, a fusion of astronomy, archaeology and history. We kicked off the afternoon with our timelines, craftily set up to replicate the landscape, in the clearing for our Roman to Neolithic section, heading into the woodland to represent the hunting and gathering communities of the Mesolithic. As the summer draws to a close....

As we draw towards the end of August it is time to reflect on a fantastic summer holiday of history, archaeology and astronomy. We have been really busy with outings, site visits and our prehistoric skycamps in locations ranging from the Cotswolds, Brecon Beacons, Cambridgeshire and Dartmoor. Prehistoric Stargazing

It has been a fantastic summer for astronomy, plenty of warm, clear nights to gaze upwards and contemplate our place in the Universe. We are really hoping this will continue for the rest of the month as we have two palaeoastronomy camps organised. These are two and three day retreats where we combine prehistory, archaeology and astronomy activities designed to inspire, to educate and most importantly, to be a lot of fun. The first is our Prehistoric Skycamp at Abington Woods, Great Abington in Cambridgeshire, on 21st to 23rd August. Over the bank holiday weekend, 24th to 27th August we are teaming up with Change in Nature at their Deep Family Time - digital detoxification in a hidden Dartmo
