As we move further south west, the landscape becomes a little wilder and harsher, with big skies and more challenging walking.

It is well worth the journey. Dartmoor is home to the Merrivale complex of stone circles and rows providing a tantilising glimpse of Bronze Age tradition. Nearby, Bellever has comparable sites, perhaps less well known, to explore. This is a magnificent landscape in which to roll up the sleeves and get exploring. Over the moors at Lydford, clues of its Anglo Saxon past are hidden for the enquiring mind to discover.
